All paintings in this gallery are free-hand, not-to-scale copies of figurative works by other artists.  In this endeavor, Gene Gould is following an old tradition.  Artists have always copied masterpieces from painters whose work they admired most.

The Rembrandt painting was part of an exchange between the Moscow State Pushkin Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.   An unusual feature of this painting is that the ring on the lady's hand has a build up of paint applied in such a way that, at certain viewing angles, it reflects light as a real gem would.  This cannot be seen on reproductions.

The other copies were made using prints in art books, so the colors may be very different from those of the originals.
